5 Habits for Keeping your Business Organized

Managing a business is a lot of work and stressful and exhausting. We know. But there are some very doable things you can include in your daily/weekly/monthly routine that can make it all seem a little less overwhelming.

Daily To Do Lists

Start every morning with a rundown of what’s on your plate. Take about ten minutes to prioritize – figure out what needs to be done immediately and what can wait til the end of the week. Keep this list handy either on your computer or on a whiteboard in your office. And of course things will change so plan to revise it every morning.

Email Maintenance

Set aside an hour or so every week to go through ALL your emails. Purge what you don’t need. Respond to what you can at the time. File what you need to address at a later time. You’ll be amazed how nice it feels to not have a big red number above your mailbox icon.

Update Calendars

Block off a few minutes at the end of each day to make sure all your calendars are synced up and up to date with whatever meetings, events, special occasions, etc. you have coming up. And make sure to put in all the useful info - time, location, purpose of the event/meeting, what you need to prepare for it.

Computer Desktop Cleanup

If your computer desktop ends up covered in random files that have been sitting there for months, it might be time to prioritize a weekly or biweekly cleanup. Schedule some time to go through all your files that have landed either on your desktop or in your Downloads folder and move them to the appropriate folder or trash.

Physical Desktop Cleanup

Keeping a clean desktop on your actual desk is even more important. Take time at the end of each day, or at least week, to file papers and shred the junk mail. Clutter can create a stressful environment for you to work in so keeping it to a minimum will make for a much more pleasant work day.
