The Secret to a Strong CTA

In the world of marketing, we work hard to grab the attention of our targeted customers with dynamic imagery and meaningful words, but at the end of it all, the most significant moment is the Call to Action (CTA). This is the end goal. And it's most commonly represented with a small and simple button or line of text prompting our audience to take the next step in the customer journey. So how do we inspire the customer to take action when they've reached this pivotal point? Here's some tips for getting the most response from your CTA.

Make it Clear

If you want your customer to take action without hesitation, they need to know exactly what that next step is going to be. Vague CTAs will cause your customer to feel uneasy. So make sure your CTA communicates clearly what you're asking them to do and what they can expect when they do it.

Make it Stand Out

Don't make your customers look for your CTA, because most of the time, they won't. The CTA should be the most visibly obvious thing on your webpage, eblast, or ad. Use brighter colors from your palette and bolder versions of your fonts for an eye-catching CTA.

Keep it Short

Don't overcomplicate things with a wordy CTA. Keep it short, sweet, and to the point. This will actual aid in our first two points. Fewer words for more clarity and visibility. Two to three words is ideal. Once you've exceeded six, time to edit.

Keep it Simple

Not only do you need simple words, you need a simple design. A CTA is not the place to show off your Illustrator skills. Use a basic font, solid colors or subtle gradients, and plenty of negative space around your CTA.

Use Enticing Words

Even though you're only using a few words, they should be persuasive and action-oriented words. Grab the customer's attention and create a sense of urgency. And in some situations, try using first person text for more results.

When advertising for your business, it's easy to get caught up in the big picture and let the CTA become an afterthought.
