We have another list of trends to share with you for 2023...Typography! This might sound like a less exciting category, but just take a look at what this year has in store!
Serifs
Finally! Serifs are back! Serifs are those little extra strokes on characters. You could call them a lagniappe. Serif fonts have been primarily used for the extreme corporate or government campaigns for many years, but now we're seeing them used in a more casual and relaxed environment.
Vintage Psychedelic
We've talked about how retro design styles are hot right now. This includes typography. The organic and groovy fonts used in the 60s and 70s have been working their way into contemporary graphic design for the past couple of years and we're seeing them now more than ever.
White on Black
This might sound like a color trend, but this one applies specifically to typography. The design world observed how many people switched to dark mode when it became available on screens, so we're taking the hint and giving you more white text on a black background.
Distorted
Stretching and manipulating fonts has been a no no for designers for way too long, so we're rebelling and having some fun with experimental typography. This trend makes type way more versatile since we're not limited to keeping the characters in the original form.
Condensed
When you want to make a statement and be seen, condensed typography is the way to go. Tall, thin characters have proven to be one of the most impactful and aggressive styles of type. So now more and more designers are breaking out this secret weapon which will not be ignored!
